Green roofs will soon become an essential attribute of cities in the UK

A unique project of greening the roofs of buildings launched in the UK.

Buildings in the UK and have a huge variety of roofing materials, but a new project that is started now in the UK for the first time in the history suggests to cover the roof of the rare instances of meadow grasses and plants.

Unique specimens of flowers, grasses, mosses and meadow plants that live in a habitat in Northumberland National Park in the North of England, will be used to create one of a kind the roof of the new landscape discovery Centre near Haltwhistle.

This was the first project you intend to use wild herbs, flowers, mosses that grow in the National Park. The team which consists of experts on vegetation, leading botanists, landscape designers and mostly students of the region, conducts monitoring, comparing, and studying methods of growing various kinds of plants, highlighting the most sustainable , also explores the possibilities of commercial use of data obtained with the development of the project.

 

According to the authors of the project, the green roof will be so natural and harmonious with nature, she will become a favorite place as just tourists and people, serious students of nature.

Portions of the roof landscape of the Park will be developed within two years to help select a preferred nutrient medium for plants cultivated on it.

Typically the green roof comprises several layers such as the root and irrigation .

The green roof plays several functions. It absorbs rainwater, providing insulation, creating habitat for animals, helps to reduce air temperature and softens thermal effect in hot weather

Green roofs also provide habitat for plants, insects and animals that in the absence of green spaces have limited natural space in cities. Even in high rise urban environments green roofs can serve to attract beneficial insects, birds, bees and butterflies. The green roof can become a haven for songbirds, migratory birds and other wildlife facing shortages of natural habitat.
