The national Association of Landlords – (property owners) the UK recalled that soon comes into force a law requiring landlords to check tenants on the legality of their immigration status.
Pilot project on implementation of new legislation will be launched on 1st December 2014 until in one region – in the West Midlands. From the first of December 2014 all landlords in the area will be responsible for whether or not the lessee the right to legal residence in the United Kingdom, and therefore will not be able to provide the potential tenant a rental contract until he proves his legal status.
If the verification is not made, the landlord can be fined a significant amount – £3,000.
The new rules, which were developed in connection with toughening of control over illegal migration in the UK, will be gradually implemented in the rest of the UK during 2015. This will allow immigration authorities of great Britain already at the stage of conclusion of the lease agreement to control migration flows in the country.

Home office (office in the UK, responsible for issues of citizenship and migration) have not yet developed the appropriate instructions, but most likely, the tenant will have only to show the landlord your British passport. If the tenant does not have a passport of a British citizen, will need to present any alternative document – birth certificate, certificate of naturalization, driver’s license number, pension insurance.
For citizens of member countries of the European Union, it is sufficient to provide their national passport or other identity document. Persons from other States to enter into a lease agreement needs to be pasted in your passport a visa with the reflection of biometric data and stamp of the migration service of the UK, which will cover the legal stay of a citizen in the territory of the United Kingdom.
