The municipality of Manchester promises to build up to 2000 new apartments every year

At that time, as the UK has experienced a total deficit of housing, one of the largest cities of great Britain announces plans to build 2,000 new homes each year.

The municipality of Manchester believes that it is necessary to accelerate the delivery of new affordable housing, particularly focusing on those consumers whose financial status is below the average level in the country.

A flexible strategy will cover all types of households from social housing intended for rent, ending with the various types of ownership as fractional ownership “shared ownership” and the so-called “shared equity”.

Municipalities are ready to work with different types of financing, both public and private, and to use the government benefits program for the construction of affordable types of real estate.

Over the past five years was built 2721 apartments in Manchester. At the same time 1800 housing units were lost as a result of dismantling and demolition. In the end, the net increase in housing was only 921. It is extremely small, because the city needs 1,000 to 2,000 new housing units annually.

At the same time, we are raising money to put in order the old social housing, of which there are about 70000 units to ease the problem of affordable housing.

According to the Deputy head of the municipality of Manchester, Bernard Priest, decent and safe housing should not be considered a luxury. We’re going to put the city 2000 units of affordable, safe and decent housing every year and we hope to realize our plans.
