Housing micro-apartments are often criticized for the fact that it resembles a rabbit cage, however, according to the study, 71% of the population supports the concept of “micro-housing”.
Most often this kind of housing is the result of the conversion of commercial space into residential, when you don’t need a special layout and under the shelter rebuilt former offices. Basically, this kind of property in the UK is popular with people, or families, first-time buyers afford homes.
Company YouGov conducted a survey of people of different age, social status, and earnings, showing them in the video and audio images of different “micro-apartments” and asking if they would like to buy these flats.

The survey showed that the best this idea is supported by people in the age group up to 35 years or after 55 years with the highest level of support – young people up to 24 years, among whom 84% support the idea of “micro-apartments are an ideal base”.
A curious dependence on earnings among those who earn less than £40,000 pounds a year, this idea is supported by 73% of respondents, while among those earning more than £40,000 to 65%.
Following established standards, builders refuse to build micro-housing. Current British law only allows you to rebuild the unused office space to residential, bypassing the established standards. This resolution entered into force in 2013 and since then thousands of micro-apartments came on the market, solving the problem of housing for many homeowners.
The government had no intention to revise the construction standards relative to the size of housing in February of the following year, however, this document was not adopted due to the fact that this year happened unplanned change of government in the UK.
The survey showed, the idea of “micro-apartments” close to people, they are sympathetic to the idea of becoming the owner of at least a little, but still their own property. Especially such a property in England is in demand from young professionals and young families. For many this is the only chance to make a first step on the ladder owners.
