About 87 % of tenants of residential property in the UK say they are happy to demonstrate their legal status. 82 % believe that tenants should be required to provide proof of their immigration status. And the remaining 18% do not want to share the details of your immigration status with the host.
This study was conducted in the UK by the National Association of Homeowners in the fight against illegal migration. In his official address, the British government appealed to private homeowners to contribute to the implementation of the law, taking responsibility for monitoring the immigration status of their tenants.
Meanwhile, to implement this control impossible, since there is no legitimate reason to require the homeowner throughout the term of the lease periodically checked the documents of their tenants. This kind of verification has the authority to conduct only the proper authorities and if such a duty to impose on landlords, it may be in some cases, fraught with danger.
It was also noted that the system of inspections must be such that the rules were clear, accessible and easily doable. Doubts and ambiguities in the rules can lead to uncertainty in the rental market, where currently there is a shortage of affordable housing.
Most of the owners of property in the UK, lease, already familiar with the concept of the extended verification of their tenants, in particular, to check the immigration status of the tenant. There are strong recommendations to check a potential tenants until a lease.
As for the 18% of tenants who do not want to share their immigration status, it is obvious that such tenants are evading compliance. And because the control over observance of rules may be imposed on the lessor, such a tenant can be denied rental housing.
Even now there are consultations before the introduction of the new rules. But market participants hope that after all the practical points, new control rules tenants will be accepted.
