The first serious comprehensive analysis of the successes and failures of the new project, called “the Garden City”, will be done next year.

Association of Housing and country Planning is only conducted their experiments for the creation of a garden city when the British government suggested that, why not make the project “City-Garden” part of the solution to the national housing problem?

In the UK there already exists two such city – one of them is Ipswich, which is located 60 km North of London. This city was founded in 1905 and is included in the world heritage list as a protected architectural and historical value. The creators of the city had a kind of a experiment, trying to combine the advantages of city and country life, while excluding the disadvantages of both the town and village. The experiment was continued in 1920, the creation of city and Trade in the East of London. These two artificially planned and created by the city was considered a kind of unique experiment, and still attract tourists and scientists from around the world.

However, in the postwar years the idea was forgotten, and these cities are faced with many challenges related to funding, aging infrastructure, etc.

Today, the area of these two cities is home to around two million people and the authorities intend to draw lessons from the past and apply best practices for the implementation of new projects.

For the project there will be changes in the “act on the cities” in order to expand the powers of local authorities and to make the accountability system more democratic.

Because the program is long-term, it must include long-term planning and not depend on election cycles. This extensive project can be implemented only with mutual interest and coherence of local and Federal authorities. But this requires political certainty and support from government at the highest level.
