The house of straw – that it is an anachronism or madness?

Neither one nor the other. This is the latest designers-builders from the UK, which will go on sale in 2015. This is not a fantastic project. The first seven straw houses in Bristol are in the process of certification, and then to buy such a house you can use the standard mortgage loan.

A small pilot house in England at two and three bedrooms, the construction of which took more than 7 tons of straw, will consume 90% less heat compared to brick houses.

The project is supervised by Professor Pete Walker of bath University . Under his leadership, the entire process of building and testing at home at every stage.

Presumably, the construction of houses will be completed in April 2015 and they will be for sale, priced from £220000 to £240,000 lbs. According to Pete Walker, humanity is underestimating the benefits of straw as a building material.

Straw is a very cheap and a widespread material, which allows to save consumption of a huge number uglevodorodov and save the environment. Orientirovochno, the cost of heating such a house will cost approximately £100 per year. An important factor is the availability and efficiency of these houses. Now in the city of Bristol is in the final stage of construction and testing houses. In fact, the wall of such a house presented a bale of straw, enclosed in a wood frame.

In addition, made of straw boards are used to align the walls of the house inside is drywall. The outside wall of the house are brick-lined and will not particularly stand out from the background of brick houses.

The only place where you will see that you is a window opening where you can see thatched house maintenance.

Straw panels, which are used in the construction , have been subjected to rigorous testing. To obtain the certificate of energy efficiency, they were tested on fire safety, durability and resistance to weather changes. Panels from straw were exposed to heavy rain and extreme temperatures – from -20° C to 50° C .

The government hopes that the experiment of introduction of such light, safe houses with low energy consumption will be successful and Britain will be able to make significant progress in reducing the consumption of hydrocarbons.
