The promises of politicians to legislate the right of tenants of residential property in the UK to have a cat or dog has been met with skepticism by homeowners.
The labour party has put forward a new bill giving the right to tenants to have Pets by default, if they don’t cause trouble.
Currently many homeowners are in advance by contract forbid their tenants to keep Pets for fear of damage to the property or garden. Often the landlords are denied their clients request to have a pet, explaining his refusal to risk damage to the property, the size of the animal, impact on the future prospects of the lease and the potential need of housing repairs.

Expressing concern about the decline in the purchasing power of young people, the labour party decided to protect tenants with Pets. Young people already are now experiencing huge difficulties with accommodations, and the chances of pet lovers to find a flat or house in England to rent reduced many times. Supporters of the bill believe it is necessary to ensure such a right for animal lovers and society from such measures will become even more humane. In addition, tenants with Pets less likely to change their place of residence, which is also beneficial to the landlord.
Meanwhile, the bill requires careful consideration – perhaps the landlord should have the right to take an additional Deposit to cover expenses due to damage. In addition, the housing in which the tenants keep four-legged Pets must be additionally insured.
For this reason opinions are divided. Opponents of the bill are appealing to the fact that sometimes the housing does not fit for animals and may even be harmful to their health –for example, an apartment without a garden or even a minimal plot of land.
